We will give you a step-by-step instruction on how to use it.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Open Terminal<\/h2>\n<p>Terminal is not located at the most obvious place on your Mac, and maybe that\u2019s one of the reasons you have never seen it before. Here are three ways to open Terminal:<\/p>\n<h3>Open with LaunchPad<\/h3>\n<p><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/cleanerone.trendmicro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/doc-root\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/1-1.png.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cleanerone.trendmicro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/1-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"webpexpress-processed\"><\/picture><br \/>\n1. The Terminal application will start and open a command prompt window.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Open with Spotlight<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the top right corner of the screen, click the magnifying glass icon to open Spotlight Search. You may also press the Command + Space key simultaneously on the keyboard to open &#8220;Spotlight&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Type terminal in the search bar. The Terminal application will launch, and a window will open.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Open with Finder<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Finder. You may need to swipe the list to find it.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down and find the &#8220;Terminal&#8221; program. Double-click it to start it and go through the whole process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Common Terminal Commands<\/h2>\n<p><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/cleanerone.trendmicro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/doc-root\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/3-1-1024x718.png.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cleanerone.trendmicro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/3-1-1024x718.png\" alt=\"Terminal Interface\" class=\"webpexpress-processed\"><\/picture><br \/>\nThere are many things you can do with the Terminal. Just remember these commonly used commands \u2014 they can help you get familiar with how Terminal works.<br \/>\nTo execute any command on Terminal, simply type the command on the command line and press Return. You also need to press Return if there are more than one line of command. When you copy the command, pay attention to the spaces and the correct capitalization. These details are crucial for the command to work successfully.<\/p>\n<h3>Use Terminal to show hidden files<\/h3>\n<p>To display hidden files, enter the following command in the Terminal:<br \/>\n<strong>defaults write com.apple.dock showhidden -bool true &amp;&amp; \\<br \/>\nkillall Dock<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To restore hidden files, enter the following command in the Terminal:<br \/>\n<strong>defaults write com.apple.dock showhidden -bool false &amp;&amp; \\<br \/>\nkillall Dock<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Copy Files to Another Folder<\/h3>\n<p>Terminal can help you batch move files from one folder to another. Use this command:<br \/>\n<strong>ditto [Folder 1] [Folder 2]<\/strong><br \/>\nReplace \u201cFolder 1\u201d with the folder that your files originally located at, and replace \u201cFolder 2\u201d for the target folder you want to put the files in. Note that all files from the original folder will move to the target folder. If you want to check what files are being moved, add <strong>-v<\/strong> at the end of the command.<\/p>\n<h3>Remove the shadow of the window screenshot<\/h3>\n<p>To take a screenshot of a specific opened window, you can use this shortcut:<br \/>\n<em>Command \u2318 + Shift + 4, then the sp.<\/em><br \/>\nYou will find, however, the window screenshot is surrounded by a circle of a shadow. When entering the following command, replace <strong>Desktop<\/strong> with your desired folder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~\/Desktop &amp;&amp; \\<br \/>\nkillall SystemUIServer<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Notification Center<\/h3>\n<p>You can use Terminal to control the closing and opening of the notification bar on the right side of the desktop.<br \/>\n<em>Close notification:<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>launchctl unload -w \/System\/Library\/LaunchAgents\/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist &amp;&amp;<br \/>\nkillall -9 NotificationCenter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Open notification (default)\uff1a<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>launchctl load -w \/System\/Library\/LaunchAgents\/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Software Update<\/h3>\n<p>Instead of opening App Store and check the available software updates, you can simply type in this command line in Terminal:<br \/>\n<strong>sudo softwareupdate -l<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use the following command to install all updates in one click:<br \/>\n<strong>sudo softwareupdate -ia<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>System integrity protection<\/h3>\n<p>System Integrity Protection restricts the root user account and limits the actions that the root user can perform on protected parts of the Mac operating system. It is a technology developed by Apple to help prevent potentially malicious software from modifying protected files and folders on your Mac.<br \/>\nDisable system integrity protection and restart by pressing <em>Command \u2318 + R<\/em>, open the terminal application, and enter:<br \/>\n<strong>csrutil disable &amp;&amp; reboot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To enable system integrity protection and reboot:  press and hold <em>Command \u2318+ R<\/em>, open the terminal application, and enter:<br \/>\n<strong>csrutil enable &amp;&amp; reboot<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>How to Exit Terminal\u3000\u3000<\/h2>\n<p>Click the Terminal window that is running the command you want to terminate.<br \/>\nPress the <strong>CTRL + C<\/strong> key to terminate commands currently running in Terminal.<\/p>\n<h2>Use optimization software<\/h2>\n<p>Terminal is great for quick and easy tasks and organizing all your files.
