For various reasons, it is sometimes necessary to convert a PDF file to a Word document. One of those reasons is because PDFs \u2014 unlike Word documents \u2014 cannot be easily edited without the use of certain software. I. Convert a PDF to a Word document with Google Drive\/Docs<\/h2>\n

1) Log in to Google Drive<\/strong>.
\n2) Click the cog icon in the top right and choose Settings<\/strong>.

3) Check the box next to “Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format”, and click Done<\/strong>.

4) Upload the PDF file to Google Drive (press the \u201c+ New\u201d button and select \u201cFile upload\u201d.)

5) Right-click the PDF file and choose Open with<\/strong> > Google Docs<\/strong>.

6) A new Google Doc window will open. Click File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx).

II. Convert a PDF to a Word document with Automator<\/h2>\n

You can use Automator to create an app that automatically converts PDF files to Word docs. Here\u2019s how to do it:
\n1) Launch Automator<\/strong>.
\n2) Select Workflow<\/strong> > Choose<\/strong>.

3) Click on Files and Folders<\/strong> in the left column.
\n4) Select Ask for Finder Items<\/strong> in the other column and drag this action to the right pane that says \u201cDrag actions or files here to build your workflow.\u201d

5) In the left column, click PDFs<\/strong>, then drag Extract PDF Text<\/strong> (from the second column) to the right pane.

9) Open the newly created Automator app and use it to covert PDF files to Word documents.

III. Convert a PDF to a Word document using Preview (copy and paste method)<\/h2>\n

When in a pinch, you can use Preview and copy and paste to copy the text in a PDF, paste it, and save it as a Word document. Here\u2019s how to do it:
\n\u2022 Right-click a PDF file, and choose Open With<\/strong> > Preview<\/strong>.

\u2022 Select the text you want to copy and hit Command\u2010C<\/strong> (or Command\u2010A<\/strong> to select all the content at once).
